Big Orlitts has been the scene of some major changes over the last season with the completion of the new visitor centre.
The visitor centre is an educational facilty and provides the opportunity for schools and other interested parties to observe the enormous variety of wildlife that inhabit Orlitts. The building of the new centre has also benefited the anglers fishing this venue as there are now both new entrance gates, access road and car park and we would ask members to offer whatever assistance they can to the people involved in the centre.
Orlitts has an incredible variety of features with gravel bars running in all directions and small and large plateaux’s at various depths.
Islands of all sizes litter the lake and small bays and snaggy area’s provide safe area’s for the fish as well as some nice stalking area’s. Weed growth can be prolific during the summer but clear area’s can be found and anglers last season baited heavily and used the lakes birdlife to clear area’s for them.
Orlitts carp population currently comprises at least one Common Carp that scraped over 40lb in 2006, up to seven thirties, over a hundred 20lb fish and rakes of doubles. There are also some large tench which have been banked in excess of 9lb along with some big Bream and large perch.
Accessed through combination locked gates Orlitts shares its toilet facilities with neighbouring water Colnbrook West.
