Old Slade Lake was  the pet project of Myles Boyer and he stocked Old Slade with both Carp and Catfish many years ago. Unfortunately no records exist as to exactly what and how many fish the water received and so rumours are all that remain.

The rumours of very large fish being caught from Old Slade have been circulating for years and came up again in 2007 when the story of the capture of an Old Slade Lake 50lb carp circulated both on the internet and in one of the weeklies.

Despite significant effort we were unable to obtain any photo’s or further information to verify this capture. Therefore we continue to promote the angling at Old Slade Lake based on the information we have.

Old Slade Lake is a fifty acre venue which can be up to sixty five feet in depth in certain area’s. The shallowest part of the lake is around the island, from where the lake shelves gradually in depth until it reaches the first of the perimeter roads used to extract the gravel when the pit was first dug.

Based on the information  we currently have Old Slade Lake contains about seven thirties to 38lb 9oz, this fish was a Mirror caught in May 2005 and although we have been unable to obtain pictures of subsequent captures over the last three years we think it likely that the fish may have gained a few ounces.

Old Slade also contains at least seventy five fish over twenty pounds and over a hundred doubles. Old Slade has also produced some very big Bream and fish to 16lb 2oz were caught in 2006. Old Slade was stocked with catfish many years but as far as we know nobody has ever landed one.

Access to Old Slade Lake is through two sets of security gates one key operated and the other a combination lock, there is a charge of £3 for a key.

Located at the end of a long track hundreds of metres from the nearest main road access the Old Slade car is situated next to the lake and some swims have the facility to park your car behind you.
