The biggest change at Bedfont Lake since our last brochure has been the decision to make the water a season ticket only venue.
The increase in catch reports along with the lake giving up its first documented forty plus saw a huge increase in anglers on the banks. After talking to the season ticket holders it was decided that removing the lakes day ticket status was the way forward and this seems to be working well.
The high average temperatures last season allowed the lakes residents to continue feeding and also let them spawn several times. This has resulted in the fish being in excellent condition and some fish showing impressive weight increases.
Last season saw the lake record increased when a 41lb 3oz Common was banked and with nearly a dozen fish over thirty pounds and a good head of twenties the carp population is looking very healthy.
Anglers fishing for other species have not been left out as some nice Roach & Tench made an appearance last season, there was also some reports that the Crucians the lake was once well known for are once again getting caught.
The predators anglers have also done well over the last season with pike up To 24lb falling to ledgered deadbaits and a 4lb 3oz Perch being caught on a Small spinner.
Bedfont Carp respond well to most methods, big beds of bait during the summer can see the fish move in and clear up the area. A pva bag of pellets with a single bright pop up seems to work throughout the year and last season a few anglers used Medusa Maggot Rigs over big beds of dead maggots for some impressive bags.
Improvements at Bedfont Lake have continued and last year saw the car park enclosed with security fencing, work will continue this season and should benefit the lake and those that fish there. |
